HAMMONDSPORT – Jean R. Morrison, age 98, a longtime resident of Hammondsport, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 10, 2022 with her son by her side. Jean was born in Blossburg, PA in 1923, the only child of Harold and Pearl Turnbull Gifford. She lived in Blossburg during her early years before moving to Little Marsh after her mother remarried. She is survived by a son Jay Flannery (Sandra) of Liverpool, NY, a daughter Coral Pennetti (James) of Canton, Ohio, grandsons Jay Flannery Jr. (Javona) of Atlanta and Jeffrey Flannery of Anchorage, beloved great granddaughter Emma Jean, nephew Francis Paquin (Beverly), Canton, Ohio and niece Jean Paquin of North Canton, Ohio.
After graduation from high school Jean moved to Elmira where she attended Elmira Business Institute, working for a time at Rosenbaum’s and Hygia in the bookkeeping department. Following in the footsteps of her mother who was a registered nurse, Jean eventually enrolled at St. James Hospital School of Nursing in Hornell; graduating in 1951. In the early 50s she worked briefly at both the former Blossburg State Hospital and Soldiers & Sailors Hospital in Wellsboro before eventually accepting a job at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Bath. Most of her 25 years at the VA, were spent on 3B, where she was known as an outstanding and compassionate RN. Following her retirement in 1977, she and her husband built a home in Sarasota where they spent each winter until 2002. In 2002 she was predeceased by her husband of 24 years, George E. Jean, in her retirement years, always enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and visiting her many lifetime friends.
