AVOCA- Victor Hammond Sr., 78, of 8710 County Route 70, passed away early Friday morning at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath.
He was Born at home in Howard, NY on October 9,1935, a son of Floyd L. and Ruth F. French Hammond. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife Janet, a brother Ernest and two granddaughters Melissa and Stacey Hammond.
Victor was a self employed farmer working on his farm in Avoca the Hammond Valley Farms for over 40 years. He was a Dekalb local seed dealer for over 40 years, a 12 year member of the Avoca School Board serving time as School Board President and a lifelong member of the Agway Association.
His family includes his ten children Mary (Doug) Erickson, Victor (Brooke) Hammond, Jr., Judy Dunaway, Jeffery (Brandy) Hammond, Brenda Kirkum, Raymond (Anastasia)Hammond, Allan Hammond, Gary (Michelle) Hammond, Gerald (Melissa) Hammond, and Amy (Will) Nunn; also a “Wagon Load” of grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers James (Vera) Hammond, Paul (Margarette) Hammond; sisters Alice Bliss, Ellen Jopson, Faith (Rick) Hagenloh; Victors lifelong friend Fred Zeh, Pam (Don) Hammond.
Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 11-1 p.m. Wednesday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral service will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Daniel Pickering officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
In Lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Wallace Volunteer Fire Dept., 9087 State Route 415, Avoca N.Y. 14809.

  2. My brother Victor, stayed on the farm and made it possible for my mother, brother, and I to have a home, after my father was killed in a farm accident. I will always be grateful to him for that.
