THOMAS R. EVELAND

HORNELL- Thomas R. Eveland, 83, passed away April 27, 2017, at St. James Hospital.

Born on April 21, 1934 in Hornell, Tom was the son of the late Rodney and Theresa Hammer Eveland. Tom graduated from Hornell High School and later served his country in the U.S. Air Force From 1953 To 1957. On Nov. 5, 1955 Tom married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Buono at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. After serving in the military, Tom and Beverly returned to Hornell where they would raise their family Patricia (Gerry) Flaitz, Dr. Virginia Shephard, Thomas (Deanna) Eveland, Marlene (Mike Sullivan), and Mark Eveland.

As a traffic signal electrician, Tom was employed by NYSDOT. Tom could be counted on to maintain the safety of the streets, even in the worst conditions. Tom retired from the Department of Transportation in 1991.

Tom loved to hunt, golf,and enjoy time with his best friends Jack and Carol Mulheisen. He was a member of Twin Hickory Golf Club and the Arthur Cunningham American Legion Post 440.

During Toms life, he was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Who will all remember Grandpa fishing at the lake, sneaking sweets, and cheering for the Yankees.

As he leaves this earth to join Beverly, he will be missed by all of those who knew and loved him.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Updykes Home for Tom’s care in his final year.

Calling hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Followed by a funeral service with military honors. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Fremont.

In lieu of flowers those wishing may contribute in his memory to Alzheimer’s Association, 435 E. Henrietta Rd, Rochester NY 14620. Envelopes for contributions will be available at the funeral home.
