SONJA R. SWEENEY
NORTH HORNELL-Sonja R. Sweeney, 59 of Cleveland Ave., passed away Saturday evening (Oct. 11, 2014) at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Born in North Hornell on Dec. 19, 1954, she was a daughter of the late Robert A. and Vera Paulsen Sweeney.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Sonja was a 1973 graduate of Hornell High School and also attended Rochester Institute of Technology.
Following the death of her father in 1996 Sonja assumed ownership of the Robert A. Sweeney Agency Real Estate and Insurance Agency as Broker/Owner.
She will be remembered for her generosity, her fun personality, a smile and laugh that would light up a room. Always welcoming, Sonja loved to entertain family and friends at either her home or at the cottage on Loon Lake. Visiting with her was always a treat. She was also a true pet lover.
Always willing to give of her time, Sonja was active in various organizations in the Hornell and Loon Lake community either as a Board Member or fundraiser chairperson.
Sonja was a member of the Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell.
Her loving family includes her son, Casey Kellogg of North Hornell; her aunt, Ellen Sengstock of Hornell; as well as her many cousins, friends and loyal employees.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Sonja R. Sweeney.
To honor Sonja’s wishes there will be no calling hours and the courtesy of no flowers would be greatly appreciated. Those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell or the Hornell Family YMCA, 18 Center St., Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her memory at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the church. Private interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont, at the convenience of her family.
Thank you for being a wonderful ,generous friend the last time we saw each other was at a cross country meet in Elmira I have wonderful memories of all of our summers at Loon Lake

I was saddened to learn of Sonja’s death. Condolences to her son Casey. I knew Sonja on both a professional basis and as a friend. I hope she is Resting in the Peace she deserves.

Sonja was my friend from elementary thru high school and more. I am go I am going to miss her. I still can hear her laughter. God rest Sonja.
There are a lot of great memories of growing up in North Hornell and summers on Loon Lake with Sonja, you will be missed my friend.
Sonja was a good friend and a good person. We had a lot of great times together, ones that I have never forgotten and never will. I would always see her around town from time to time she would always make me laugh. It’s hard to believe I will not see her anymore. I will miss her. Casey you have my deepest sympathy,my prayers are with you. Rest in peace my friend you are in a good place now.

Casey, your mom was always so good to me. Sometimes I would go to her office with a quick question, and we would end up talking for an hour about my life, her life. I LOVED talking to her. She was interesting, funny, charming, humble and good. I am so sorry for your loss — and what a loss it is. I hope Sonja is enjoy her everlasting peace now, surrounded by puppies, her family and so much love.
