Sondra Ripley
AVOCA – Sondra Ripley, 86, of Avoca, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday (June 4, 2026).
Born on November 24, 1939, in Corning, NY, she was the daughter of Louis Quagliania and Anne Ferranti. Sondra devoted her life to her family, her work, and the many animals she loved and protected.
Sondra worked as a professional server for many years at Pierce’s 1894 Restaurant in Elmira, followed by several years at the Corning Hilton. She later served as manager of Crystal City Bakery in Corning and finished her career as a cook at the Steuben County Jail.
She enjoyed cooking, preserving and canning fresh foods, rescuing and caring for animals—especially dogs—betting on horse racing, and spending time with family and friends. Above all, Sondra will be remembered for her deep compassion for animals, her fierce loyalty to those she loved, her strong work ethic, and her complete inability to tolerate nonsense.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, David Ripley; her sister, Brenda Arnold of Webster, NY; her children, Melody (Bob) Bradbury of Louisville, Kentucky; Craig Marlatt (Angella) of East Aurora, NY; Kelly Monroe-Porco (Michael) of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Michael Monroe (Kim) of Glen Carbon, Illinois; and Leslie Monroe of Horseheads, NY. She also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Quagliania; her father, Louis Quagliania; and her mother, Anne Bartholomew.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. SATURDAY (June 13, 2026) Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 22 Main Street, AVOCA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ASPCA in Sondra’s memory.
Sondra’s love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family and animals will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
The Bishop & DeSanto funeral Home is honored to assist Sandra’s family with the arrangements.
