Robert M. Dodds
AVOCA-Robert M. Dodds, 82, of Alexander Street, passed away early Sunday morning (Oct. 28, 2018) at the Taylor Health Center in Bath.
Born in Ogdensburg, N.Y. on Sept. 30, 1936, he was a son of the late Francis and Helen (Crowe) Dodds.
A graduate of Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science in Syracuse, N.Y., Bob was a licensed funeral director for 22 years and was employed as the manager of the Bond-Davis Funeral Home in Avoca. Later he was employed as a Correctional Officer at the Steuben County Jail in Bath and as a bus driver for Avoca Central School and was also self-employed mowing lawns.
Bob was a member of the Avoca Masonic Lodge #673, F & AM for 50 years and was a past chief of the Avoca Hose Co. #1; he was a former member of the Avoca Lions Club, the Avoca Rod & Gun Club and he Avoca Snowmobile Club.
An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed playing cards.
His loving family includes his wife of 35 years the former Darlene Billings who he married in Campbell on Oct. 15, 1983; his three sons, Steve (Debbie) Dodds of Cohocton, Randy Dodds of Florida and Eric (Ginger) Dodds also of Florida; his three step-children, Andrea (Michael) Nardi of Springwater, Paul (Karen) Pragle of Avoca and Rodney “Chip” Pragle, Jr. of Bath; his three grandchildren, Heather, Stephanie and David (Margie); his six step-grandchildren, Christopher, Wendy, Isaac, Charles, Rodney III and Irven; his two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Raelynn; also one brother, Malcolm Dodds; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The Avoca Funeral Home, 22 Main St., Avoca is honored to serve the family of Robert M. Dodds.
Calling hours are 3-5 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 8, 2018) at the Wallace Wesleyan Church, where a funeral service will be held in his memory following the calling hours at 5 p.m. Thursday, with Pastor William Spencer officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to the Avoca Masonic Lodge #673, 3 Chase St., Avoca, N.Y. 14809.
