ROBERT L. DUNN

HORNELL-Robert L. Dunn, 76, entered into rest early Sunday evening (July 19, 2009) at his home at 302 Canisteo St., after a long illness.
Born in Hornell on May 2, 1933, he was a son of the late Eugene and Anna Lytell Dunn. On April 7, 1956, he was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to the former Joan Fawcett, who survives.
A life long resident of Hornell, Bob graduated from Hornell High School with the class of 1951 and served with the U.S. Army from 1953 to his honorable discharge in 1955.
Before his retirement in 1989, he was employed as an electrician for the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) in Hornell. For about 25 years, he and his wife, Joan, operated the concession stand at the Hornell High School for the Babe Ruth League and Midget Football.
Bob was a member of the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell. He was an avid Mets and Jets fan and enjoyed doing word puzzles. He was a great handyman, and will be remembered most of all for being a “jack of all trades.”
His family includes his wife of 53 years, Joan; his five children, Debra Cook of Watertown, Duane (Maria) Dunn, Douglas (Jean) Dunn and Robert (Kolleen) Dunn all of Hornell and Shelly Dunn (Randy) of Canisteo; his 14 grandchildren, Stephanie (Shannon) Davis, Jeremiah (Mary) Franklin, Tyler Dunn, Sarah (Nick) Tsibulsky, Adam Dunn (Naomi), Kori and Briana Dunn, Zack, Jaden, Evan and Nate Amidon, Dylan, Jake and Eli Dunn; his great-grandchildren, Cullen, Hunter, Sadie and Chelsea Davis, Deacon Tsibulsky, and Jenna, Hannah and Carly Franklin; his beloved dog, Charlie; his two brothers, Harold (Audrey) Dunn and Laurence (Margaret) Dunn; his two sisters, Genevieve Graham and Helen Kern; his mother-in-law, Lucille LaFaro Fawcett; also his nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his two brothers and seven sisters.
Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a service will take place in his memory, along with military honors, following calling hours at 7 p.m. Thursday, with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Hornell Area Babe Ruth, P.O. Box 279, Hornell, NY 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
