PAUL R. SCHNACKY 

HORNELL – Paul R. Schnacky, 95, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning (March 14, 2024) at his home in Hornell.

Born in Rochester, NY on June 8, 1928, he was one of eight sons born to the late Albert and Emma (Hagman) Schnacky.  He was predeceased by his parents and by his brothers, Charles, Msgr. Albert, William, John, Bernard, Thomas, and Robert Schnacky.

Paul grew up at St. Boniface Parish in Rochester.  He attended Aquinas Institute, St. Andrew’s Seminary, and St. Bernard’s Seminary.  He was ordained by the late Bishop James E. Kearney on July 6, 1953 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester.  He served at numerous parishes in Rochester, Auburn, Irondequoit, Cato, Red Creek and Fair Haven.  Paul came to the southern tier in 1979 and spent the rest of his life there.  He hosted a weekly radio program for a period of time.

His family includes many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday (March 19, 2024) at St. Ann’s Church, 31 Erie Avenue, Hornell. Interment will be private.

To honor his request, those wishing may have masses offered for the repose of his soul at the St. Benedict Abbey, 252 Still River Road, PO Box 67, Still River, MA 01467. Mass cards will be available at the church.

The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to assist with the arrangements.

  1. Fr Paul Schnacky was a good friend. I remember him from when he was Pastor o St Joseph’s Church, he was the last Pastor before clustering. He got me involved in many parish ministries, including St Joseph’s Festival. He will be remembered for a long time. Rest in Peace, Father!

      Father Paul was Pastor for us in Wayland NY.
      He was my idea of a great Priest.A very grand Minister of the Lord’s sacrements. Especially when He was saying some Latin Masses I’ll always miss Him and so will my 6 children who knew Him .My wife knew him well and I’m sure She is saying Hello now.
