PATRICIA R. MATTIE

HORNELL-Patricia R. Mattie, 85, passed away Sunday morning (Jan. 12, 2014) at her home on Erie Avenue.
Born in Hornell on March 17, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Ignatius and Mary Venuto Mattie. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her twin brothers, Rev. Richard Mattie and the Rev. David Mattie.
A resident of Hornell for most of her life, Patricia was a graduate of St. Ann’s School, Hornell High School, Class of 1946 and she also attended Syracuse University for several courses.
Before her retirement she was employed for about 38 years as an accountant for the Alliance Mutual Insurance Company in Hornell and later in Albion.
Patricia was a devout member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church where she also was a member of the choir.
Her family includes her two sisters, Mary Louise Mattie of Hornell and Veronica (Guy) Casaceli of Avon; her brother, Ignatius Mattie of Hornell; also her many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. today at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
Those wishing may contribute in her memory to either St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, N.Y. 14843 or to CareFirst Hospice, 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning, N.Y. 14830. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.

    Thank you for the wonderful childhood memories; the weeks in the summer spent in Albion with you, (where I’m sure Gina & I tried your patience at times), the amazing trip to Cape Cod with you, Aunt Louise, Fr. Dick & Fr. Dave, the fun food classes with you & Aunt Louise teaching Gina, Stacie & I awesome recipes. you were always there for us growing up, sharing your wisdom & love. We were so lucky to have you in our lives & will never forget you!

  3. Patricia Mattie was a wonderful neighbor when I lived next door to her on Erie Avenue in Hornell. She always had a kind word to say and just loved my boys! Until we see you again…may god bless you my friend and neighbor!
