MICHELLE L. “MICKEY†HANRHAN
HORNELL-Michelle L. “Mickey†Hanrahan, 75, passed away in the presence of her loving family, early Wednesday morning (Oct. 1, 2014) at her home on Erie Court.
Born in Hornell on Oct. 12, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Menzo and Mary Luther Woodward. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her two brothers, Lester and Albert Woodward, her sister, Cora Rohalla and her son-in-law, Charles “Chuck†Johnson.
A graduate of Canisteo Central School, Mickey has resided in Hornell for most of her life and in Sumter, SC for about 10 years.
While residing in Hornell she operated Mickey’s Day Care and was also employed by the former Sears Roebuck Store in Hornell and as a library media specialist for the Hornell City School District.
She was very active in community affairs and organizations including being a member and past president of the Republican Women’s Club, a member of the D.A.R., the Arkport Memorial American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary, a member and past-president of the P.T.A. and State P.T.A. Mickey was also involved with the Boy Scouts, Campfire, Princess and Cinderella Softball, the St. Ann’s Church Fall Festival and for many years she served with the Board of Elections as an election inspector. Mickey was an avid card player, bowler and golfer and was very proud of having a hole-in-one. She also loved to do crafts (angels being her specialty) and participated in various craft fairs.
In Sumter, SC she was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church where she served as a member of the Parish Council. Mickey became a master gardener from Clemson University and eventually became the head of a community garden. Her other memberships there included being a member and past-president of the New Comers Committee and a member of the Sumter American Legion Post Ladies Auxiliary.
Her loving family includes her husband of 56 years, Edward J. Hanrahan, who she married in Hornell on June 28, 1958; her five children, Shelly (Ian) Clugston of Canisteo, Michael (Barbara) Hanrahan of Sumter, SC, Brigette (Tom) Thompson of Hunt, Wendy Meyer (Steve Kirven) of Naples and Bradi (Jason) Parks of Key West, Fla; her 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Billie Jean Miller of Hornell and Mary Perkins of Jacksonville, Fla.; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Michelle L. “Mickey†Hanrahan.
Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 1-3 p.m. Saturday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a Time of Remembrance will be held privately for her family.

My heart is heavy with sadness. So many great memories in the Hanrahan household for me. It was my home away from home when I was a child. She was like a second mom growing up. My heart goes out to the whole family. Fly with the angels!

Mickey was a daycare provider…well, more like a second mom to both of my children from age 2 months until they entered school. She provided just the perfect blend of discipline and love and I will always be grateful to her, and her family, for that. May you rest in peace.
