Mary Lou Andrews

HAMMONDSPORT – Mary Lou Andrews, 82, passed away Wednesday Sept. 4, 2024 at her home in Hammondsport.

Born in Bath, NY on Aug. 2, 1942 she was the daughter of the late Ross and Marion (Cabic) Putnam. She was also predeceased by her husband, Arthur; brother, Ross Putnam and sister-in-law, Sheila Putnam.

A lifelong resident of Hammondsport, Mary Lou was a graduate of Hammondsport Central School and was employed by the United States Post Office in Hammondsport for 30 years before she retired.

She was a member of St. John Vianney Parish and was a communicant of St. Gabriel’s Church in Hammondsport.

Mary Lou enjoyed flower gardening as well as watching and feeding the birds.  The hummingbirds and orioles will be looking for a new cafe.  She had an extensive collection of angels which could be found throughout her home, along with many treasured photos of her family.  She especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends, who will cherish memories of her beautiful smile and laugh.  Mary Lou will be remembered as a person who cared for and served her community in quiet, but meaningful ways.

She is lovingly survived by her son, Michael Kellogg (Tonya) of Seymour, CT; her daughter, Maria Skinner (Tammy Coroa) of Endicott, NY; her grandchildren, Christopher, Arminda and Cody Kellogg and Zachary Skinner; her brother, Rodney Putnam; her sister in-law, Patricia Putnam, and several very dear friends.

Calling hours are 4-6 p.m. Friday (Sept. 13, 2024) at the Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., HAMMONDSPORT. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family at St. Gabriel’s Church, 78 Shethar St., Hammondsport where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.. Saturday (Sept. 14, 2024). Committal prayers and interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hammondsport.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, the Boy Scouts of America, or an organization of your choice.

The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home is honored to assist Mary Lou’s family with the arrangements.

  1. I will certainly miss stopping by Mary Lou’s front porch on my summer visits to Hport. I enjoyed her quiet conversations and sweet smiles as we chatted. May you rest in peace and comfort now, Mary Lou, my longtime friend.

  2. I enjoyed visiting her home and Hammondsport with Maria many times. I am glad for the memories. Loved the house and the flowers. She was fun to talk too. I will miss her.

  3. Mary Lou was like a mother to me growing up, and she’ll be greatly missed. I remember many hours sitting in her living room watching soaps and talking. Rest in peace and know that you are loved.
