Marie W. Bailey

BATH/HAMMONDSPORT – Marie (Wilkinson) Bailey passed away peacefully Tuesday (April 23, 2024) in Syracuse NY. She was born in February 1933 in Hammondsport, NY to Walter and Mildred (Root) Wilkinson. Marie graduated salutatorian of her class in 1950 and then married the love of her life, Robert H. Bailey, later that same year. Together they built their home on Mitchellsville Hill Road where they raised their four children, Marge Peaslee (Rick), Bob (Kathi), Ron and Amy (Lew).

Marie worked part-time as a school bus driver, clerk for Nancy’s Fabric Shop in Bath, NY for many years, and clerk for The Other Place and Red Wood House. She made custom made draperies, was an excellent seamstress and could sew, mend and alter anything and everything.  She spent countless hours in the kitchen cooking and baking and loved to make sure everyone had plenty to eat. Other hobbies included knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, watching the birds and watching tennis.

In the summer she loved swimming in Keuka Lake and in the winters, she enjoyed vacationing in Myrtle Beach.  Marie enjoyed watching her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren’s school sports, music concerts and other school activities. Throughout Marie’s adult life she was a member of the Hammondsport “Girls Club” where high school friends met monthly to bond and enjoy a sisterhood that lasted a lifetime.

Marie was predeceased by her husband Bob; son, Bob and grandson, Michael Peaslee.  She is survived by her children, Marge, Ron and Amy; eight grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

At her request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glenn H Curtiss Museum or Keuka Lake Association.

The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., HAMMONDSPORT is honored to assist Marie’s family with the arrangements.

  1. To the Bailey family;
    We send our sincere condolences to you all at the passing of Marie. Although we no longer live in NY, we remember many fun times we spent with both Marie & Bob during our years there. Marie’s smile always brightened any scene. We enjoyed being in Bostwick Club with them and then being invited to their home on the hill. Later years, we would meet them in the village during the summer concerts where they usually parked near enough to enjoy the music from the comfort of their car. I know the family will continue to miss them, but know that others do also.
    Sincerely, Lynn & Bob Domras
