LOUISE S. JANELLO

HORNELL-Louise S. Janello ,99, passed away Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 23, 2011)at her home on Jane St., after a brief illness.
Born in Hornell on Nov. 6, 1911 , she was a daughter of the late Anthony and Lucy D’Agostino Janello. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Josephine Janello and her brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Ralph and Nelle Janello.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Louise graduated from St. Ann’s School, Hornell High School in 1929 and Elmira College in 1933.
For 39 years she was employed as a teacher for the Hornell City School District at the former Junior High School, retiring in 1974. After her retirement she taught remedial reading at St. Ann’s School.
Louise was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church . She was also a member of the Retired Teachers, the Hornell Fortnightly Club and St. James Mercy Hospital Auxiliary. She served as a volunteer at the Aquinas Gift Shop at St. James Mercy Hospital for many years.
She enjoyed spending time reading and knitting as well as doing needlepoint and word puzzles.
Her family includes several cousins; also her many dear friends and loving caregivers.
Calling hours are from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial that will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Ann’s Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either Our Lady of the Valley Parish or to St. Ann’s School Memorial Fund, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell or to St. James Mercy Hospital Foundation, 411 Canisteo St., N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
