HORNELL-Leo E. Damrath, 52, of Grand St., passed away Thursday morning (Sept. 11, 2014) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, after a brief illness.

Throughout the years he had been employed with the NYSDOT, Hornell DPW, Wegmans, Billy Schu’s Food Bar and most recently at Seven-Eleven in Hornell.
He loved to read, especially about history and sports. He was a Yankees and NY Giants fan and was always ready to watch a good game or war movie. Leo also enjoyed sitting around a fire talking about sports, history or both.
Besides his loving mother, Marjorie; his family includes his son, Avery Vandruff; also his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

I knew Leo from high school and would run into him here and there throughout the years since. He always had a smile and we spoke whenever I saw him. My sincere condolences to Leo’s family for your loss.
A little guy with a big heart. I remember what good care he took of his Mom after his Dad died, and what good care he took of my Mom and what a wonderful neighbor and friend he has been to me and my family since my Mom passed. I will miss him.
We called him Little Leo and my three brothers and I would spend a few weeks out of each summer with him when we were younger in Hampton, Virginia and later in Hornell. Leo was always quick with a joke, a smile and his laugh was infectious. He and I were the same age and so would spend alot of adventurous time together whern my family visited his. We all loved him like a brother and our antics together will go down as epic in our own family history. I could have not asked for a better cousin and friend. I feel he contributed to the person I am today. I know I speak for my brothers and sister when I say we love him and will miss him forever. Although we grew apart since we were young, on the few occasions I saw him it was like we never left eachothers side and all those years apart dropped away when we smiled at eachother……like I’m smiling now.
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIS SMILE AND HUGS !OUR BIRTHDAYS WERE IN THE SAME MONTH ,SO WE EXCHANGED GIFTS! I WILL MISS HIM!
