Leo A. Davis
HORNELL-Leo A. Davis, 91, of Main Street, passed away early Thursday morning (Dec. 21, 2017) at Hornell Gardens, where he has resided the past two months.
Born in Raymond, Pa. on Oct. 2, 1926, he was the son of the late Arthur and Grace (Tucker) Davis. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his two sons, Harold Davis in 2010 and Stephen Davis in 2017; his grandson, Tyler Davis in 2013; and his two sisters, Betty (Davis) Batiuk and Beverly (Davis) Rider.
A resident of Hornell for 62 years, Leo attended Whitesville Central School and graduated from Troupsburgh Central School. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1944 to his honorable discharge as a Seaman First Class in 1946.
Following his military service, he received an associate’s degree in refrigeration and heating from Alfred State College. Before he retired in 1989, he was employed in construction as an electrician for IBEW Local No. 139 in Elmira.
Throughout the years Leo also owned and operated a go-cart track in Hornell and sold Christmas trees. He enjoyed riding his bicycle around town and spending time with his family at Keuka Lake.
Leo volunteered his time with the Cub Scouts, when his sons were younger and were Webelos Scouts; he was also a member of the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell and a former member of the Hornell United Methodist Church.
His loving family includes his wife of 62 years, the former Doris McCollumn, who he married at the former Park United Methodist Church in Hornell on June 18, 1955; his three sons, James Davis of Hornell, David (Apryl) Davis of Honeoye Falls and Robert Davis of Mercer, Pa.; his two daughters, Kathryn (Michael) Pavloff of St. Louis, Missouri and Dorie (Michael) Landreth of Avoca; his 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; as well as his nieces and nephews.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Leo A. Davis.
Calling hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday (Dec. 29, 2017) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service, with military honors, will follow calling hours at 2 p.m. Friday, with Pastor Lenny Fuller officiating. Interment will be in Whitesville Rural Cemetery.
The United States flag and the Navy flag will proudly fly at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in recognition of Leo’s military service.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to their favorite charity.
Uncle Leo I will always remember you as someone who had such a sense of humor and that made it was so easy to love you. I am so glad that I made it up to New York a few years back to see you and Aunt Doris. May the Lord watch over you and keep you within his love forever. I am so thankful that you were my Uncle, you made me laugh every time I was visiting and I have just wonderful memories to hang on to. You will be missed.

Doris, Jimmy, Kathy and the rest of the “Little” Davis children,
I was very sorry to hear of Leo’s passing. I have many fond memories of growing up on Davenport St and the Davis family was definitely a part of that. Please find comfort in your memories and know that he is with GOD now. God Bless you all!

We were so sad to hear of Leo’s passing. Leo and I were good friends, and I value our relationship. We worked together many years in the trade and I worked for him on 7 jobs he ran at Alfred. Leo was an outstanding electrician.
I enjoyed our visits when I got down to Hornell.
Most importantly, Leo was an admirable person and a devoted husband and father. He will be missed.
