Lawrence “Larry” Flansburg

Lawrence “Larry” Flansburg, age 71, passed away peacefully and with dignity on Saturday, (Nov. 18, 2023) at Cates Hospice House in Ocala, FL with the comfort of family.

Larry was born on Sept. 2, 1952 to Lawrence “Ham” and Florence (McCarthy) Flansburg in Hornell, NY.   A graduate of St. Ann’s School, Larry was also a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1970.  Thereafter, Larry began a lifelong career in the food service industry.  His dedication and vision lead him to become an entrepreneur.  Larry passionately owned and operated Denny’s Restaurants in Geneva, NY Farmington, NY and Rochester, NY until he was diagnosed with a visual impairment.  However, this disability did not deter Larry’s work ethic.  He finished his career at Target in Victor, NY prior to retiring to Florida with his wife Sharon.

Larry enjoyed motorsports, traveling with family, attending his sons swim meets, and nature walks.  His dry sense of humor was a quality that made everyone like and feel comfortable when with him.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Ham and Florence Flansburg, and sister Mary Kay Flansburg.

He is survived by his sister, Sally Ann, lovingly devoted wife, Sharon of 49 years; three sons, Chad Flansburg (Christine Farnam) and their children, Grace Katherine Flansburg and Tripp McCarthy Flansburg all of Victor, NY, Jason (Josephine) Flansburg of Rochester, NY and Jeremy (Summer Matejka) Flansburg and their son, Jack Flansburg all of Rochester, NY;  along with brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Larry was a loving, devoted, fun spirited spouse, father and papa.  A dedicated, knowledgeable mentor, and businessman.  A true guiding light for many.

There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join his family at St. Ann’s Church, 31 Erie Ave., Hornell where a Mass of Christian Brial will be celebrated in his memory at 10 a.m. Saturday (Dec. 16, 2023). Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make donations to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Ave, Ocala, FL  34474 or Coping with Dementia, LLC, PO Box 143, Inverness, FL  34451. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the church.
