Kathleen M. Buckley

OLEAN/HORNELL – Kathleen M. Buckley, 77, of Allegany Street in Olean, NY, formerly of Hornell, passed away unexpectedly on January 18, 2026.

Born in Hornell, NY on February 28,1948, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Helen (Pidkowicz) Buckley.

Kathy was a graduate of St. Ann’s School and Hornell High School. She attended Alfred University and received a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business and education.

Upon graduation from Alfred, Kathy became a school teacher at the Bolivar and Richburg School District. She taught high school math for over 33 years. She was also on the school board for union negotiations.

Kathy very much enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, and was a Star Trek fan from the earliest days. Kathy was also an avid pet lover; owning many cats and dogs throughout her adult life.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Buckley. Surviving is her brother Kevin (Bev) Buckley of Westerville, OH as well as several cousins.

After suffering a stroke in 2022, Kathy moved to central Ohio where she was cared for by her brother and sister-in-law at their home. Her quality of life was limited. She was able to go out to restaurants for meals, out for walks in the park and was affectionally comforted by our dog, Gunner.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. FRIDAY (Sept. 18, 2026) St. Ann’s Cemetery in Hornell. Following the graveside service, Kevin and Bev Buckley would welcome friends and family to join them at Marino’s Restaurant, 110 Loder St., Hornell for a time of conversation and remembrance.

The Bishop-Johnson-DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to assist Kathy’s family with arrangement.

  1. My most sincere condolences go out to Kathy ‘s family! I taught with her at Richburg for a couple of years, and I helped her move to Olean. I always met her challenges to figure things out the business math way vs her algebraic way. I lost everytime, but it made her happy! I sure hope there’s gold in heaven, so she can wear all her jewelry! She loved her gold jewelry, and I told her that I “lived vicariously through her.” I was early in my teaching career, and could barely afford to pay rent. We lost touch, but bumped into each other quite a few times in Tops Market. I’ve wondered where she was, and wondered if she was ok since I hadn’t seen her in years. I’m sad to hear she’s passed!
