Karl J. Schuttler

HAMMONDSPORT – Karl J. Schuttler, 82, of Hammondsport New York went to his heavenly home on January 21, 2022. Karl leaves behind his beloved wife of 44 years, Gloria.

Along with his wife, Karl is also survived by three children, Mark Schuttler (Jodi), Stacy Doda (Wes), Marc C. Schuttler (Herlyn), A sister, Carol O’Dell, several cherished grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Karl is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Gunda Schuttler of Burlington Flats, NY.

Karl was born in Brooklyn New York on September 11, 1939. He was raised in Islip New York where he entered school and in 1956 earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He graduated from Islip high school in 1958. Karl earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Cortland Teachers College in 1962 & master’s degree from SUNY Alfred, Elmira, Geneseo and Wells.

A lifelong learner, Karl embarked upon an enthusiastic career path which included teaching high school mathematics and Life Skills at Hammondsport Central School for 33 years. Never idle, Karl served as Pulteney Town Justice, was a member of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department & Village Patrol in Hammondsport and owned and operated Keuka Moving and Storage, a family run business for 20 years. Upon retirement, Karl worked as a Walmart associate in the garden center for the next 20 years.

Karl and Gloria loved traveling in their RV and discovering America the beautiful. They also enjoyed traveling abroad. He enjoyed working on his land, cutting wood, carpentry projects and yard work. As an avid reader, he loved studying the Word of God and led many bible study groups through the years. Karl enjoyed studying history, politics and was a weather watcher but spending time with his family and friends was truly the highlight of his life.

Karl will be missed by anyone who has had the opportunity to know him.

A private memorial service will be held later for the family. Donations may be made in Karl’s memory to the Pulteney Volunteer Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 56, Pulteney, NY 14874.

  1. Gloria and Family, I was so very saddened to hear of Karl’s passing. He was the most kind hearted, sweetest man. My heart goes out to you all at this sad time.
