JOSEPH M. PETERSON

AVOCA- Joseph M. Peterson, 90, of Avoca, died of a long illness, early Saturday morning (Nov. 29, 2014) at the Corning Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare (formerly Founder’s Pavilion.)
Joseph is survived by his five sons, Roger (Nancy) Peterson of Sarasota, Fla., Peter (Etta) Spak of Wayland, Brian (Angela) Peterson of North Carolina, James (Anne) Peterson of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Ray Peterson of Avoca; his four daughters, Joyce (Edward) Nygren of St. Petersburg, Fla., Marie (Michael) McFarland of Avoca, Marlene Greene of Patterson, N.Y. and Lisa Peterson of Corning; his 20 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; also his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gladys; his daughter and son-in-law, Judy (George) Rinaldo; his son, Joseph Peterson; and his two brothers, Tom and William.
Joseph was born on July 24, 1924 in Denver, Colo. He graduated from high school and entered the Merchant Marines during World War II and through his service he became a Master Chef.
After service time, he located to New York and took up another trade and earned the title of Master Carpenter. Joseph was a product of the greatest industrial age era and was also an entrepreneur, owning many business.
Joe was a great family man and a loving father. His family and friends will remember him always.
The Avoca Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Joseph M. Peterson.
There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11a.m Wednesday (Dec.3) at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
