HORNELL-John J. “Jack Mac” McInerney, Jr., 84, of 117 Seneca St., passed away Tuesday afternoon (April 9, 2013) at Rochester General Hospital.
Born in Rochester on Dec. 19, 1928, he was a son of the late John J. McInerney, Sr. and Renee Spendlove McInerney. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his son, John J. McInerney III; his brother, Michael “Mickey” McInerney and his three sisters, Renee Haller, Judy Almond and Dorothy Shank.
A graduate of Hornell High School, Jack was employed by the former Erie Railroad in Hornell and served as a Union Representative for the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union in Rochester before moving to California where he resided for 30 years. While residing in California he was employed as a Pipefitter for Local Union No. 230 in San Diego and also managed McInerney’s (a private nightclub) in Beverly Hills as well as the Coo Coo Club in San Diego before returning to Hornell about eight years ago.
Jack was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Hornell and was also a member of the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell, the Hornell AmVets Post 245, the Hornell Elks Lodge No. 364 and the Hornell Association.
He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing pool and golf; at one time he was the Club Champion at the Hornell Country Club.
His family includes his daughter, Teri (Scott) Tingley of Hornell and his son, Patrick (Cindy) McInerney of Owings Mills, Md.; his eight grandchildren, Brian (Melissa) Tingley, Star Tingley, Stephanie (David) Coddington, Melissa (Dr. Joseph) McKay, Valerie (Steven) Groves, Scott Tingley, John McInerney IV and Shawn McInerney; his 10 great-grandchildren, Laura Lee Tingley, Dani Robson, Hunter, Marcus and Brianna Tingley, Dominic and Easton Coddington, Kiera McKay, Grace Groves and Michael McInerney; his three brothers, William (Maxine) McInerney of Show Low, Az., Thomas (Julie) McInerney of Hornell and Charles Potter of Meadville, Pa. his two sisters, Maruth Dieter of Atlanta,Ga. and Patty Ann Potter of Philadelphia, Pa.; also his nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend, Julie Davis of Canisteo.
Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. today (Friday) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet his family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday. Private committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
The Conz family is so saddened to hear of the lost of Uncle Jack. He was an amazing man and our hearts to go out to the family.
