JANET M. YOUNG
ARKPORT-Janet M. Young, 68, of Lattimer Hill Road, passed away early Tuesday morning (Feb. 5, 2013) at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.
Born in North Hornell on May 31, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Clair and Esther Lawrence Dennis. On June 15, 1963 she was married in Arkport
to Richard Young, who predeceased her in 2001 after 38 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her two sisters, Mary Ann Ostrowski and Kathryn Stringing.
A resident of the Arkport area for most of her life, Janet was a graduate of Canaseraga Central School.
Along with her husband, Richard, she was the co-owner of Young Hill Dairy Farm on Lattimer Hill Road and most recently she has operated the Young Hill Ostrich and Emu Farm and Shop. Besides selling her products at her shop she also sold them at The Windmill in Penn Yan every Saturday, for the past 14 years.
Janet loved animals, flowers and especially enjoyed trips to the Casinos.
Her family includes her two children, Susan (Stephen) Brady of Pepperell, Mass. and James Young of Hornell; her three grandchildren, Stephanie (Wade) Bergeron of Manchester, N.H., Patrick Brady and Shannon Brady both of Pepperell, Mass.; her three brothers, Donald (Linda) Dennis of Arkport, Andrew (Sharon) Dennis of Canaseraga and Carlton Dennis (Charlotte Malone) of Wellsville; her brother-in-law, Thomas Stringing of Webster; several cousins, including Brenda Drake of Arkport; also nieces and nephews, as well as her companion of the past 11 years, Ronald Hetrick; Ron’s daughter, Pamela (Jeff) Gaudioso of Dansville; and her good friend, Charles Bartlett of Arkport.
Calling hours are from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral and committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, with her nephew, Pastor Donald “Denny” Dennis officiating. Private interment will be at Heritage Hill Cemetery in Arkport.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to their favorite charity.

Shocked to hear the sad news, Janet was part of our “family” of vendors from The Windmill. We will miss her smile and kind words, the corner space in building 2 will never be the same.
I love you Grandma. You were an amazing woman. You may be gone but my memories of you will live on forever. The country music playing in the kitchen as you made us dinner, the muddy shoes in the garage after we went out to the barn, walking in the woods behind your house, swinging on the swing you built for us, watching you curl your hair in the morning, and eating at Pizza Hut four times a week when we would visit. These memories and numerous others are what I will look back and smile on as I remember your wonderful life. I love you. I will love you forever. Thank you for being the most amazing Grandmother in the entire world. I love you.
I love you very much, Grandma! Thank you for all the wonderful memories you gave me that I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you for always letting me sneak into bed with you late at night after everyone had gone to bed. I’ll always remember the country music playing from the kitchen and saving those special trip to Wegman’s that we’d make when we first would arrive. I couldn’t imagine a grandmother as caring and loving as you are. I hope your shining down on us from heaven and know how much we love and miss you every single day!!! I’ll love you forever!!!
We were very saddened to hear of Janet’s passing. Our best times were opening and Christmas at the Windmill with Janet and Ron and catching Ron snoozing while Janet was selling her wares. She was always so positive even after she became ill. We were very fond of her and will miss her lots. May fond memories of her stay with you and help you heal.
We are very thankful that she made it to our wedding in June. She was able to see her grand daughter get married and have beautiful pictures taken. She will always be in our hearts. Heaven has accepted her and granted her ever lasting peace. We wish her love and peace always, from the Bergeron family.
Sue “Susie”,
I feel blessed to have been given the opportunity of being part of your family for the past month. Your Mom is an amazing woman and I can see you are so much like her…
I am so sorry for your loss.
Fondly,
Michelle V.

I grew up with Kara Strining, Janet’s niece. Over the years, I frequently got to visit Aunt Janet and Uncle Dick on the farm and enjoyed some of the warmest hospitality and most delicious meals I have ever experienced.
Janet had a knack for making people feel special and was generous in sharing her true self with the people she trusted. When Kara’s mom, Kathy, died in 1994, we were all devastated and turned to Janet more than ever. She was like a second mother to Kara and an “aunt” to everyone, despite her own grief over losing her sister. I aspire to be as loving and wonderful as Janet was. I hope she’ll help me do that from heaven.
We miss you, Aunt Janet. You were a gift from God to all of us.
