AVOCA-Ida Mae Ames, 88, of Avoca, died early Sunday morning (Jan. 13, 2013) at Corning Hospital.
Born in Avoca on Dec. 3, 1924, she was a daughter of the late William and Minnie Greenfield Faulkner. She was married to Arthur S. Ames, Sr., who predeceased her on March 10, 1980. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Kimberly; her two sons, Clayton and Michael; her brother, Hadley and her two sisters, Lyma and Thelma.
A resident of Avoca for most of her life, Ida was a homemaker.
Her family includes her three sons, Arthur Jr. (Doreen) Ames of Bath, Steven (Blanche) Ames of Corning and Sherman Ames of Hornell; her two daughters, Cheryl Ames of Bath and Stacey (Rodney) Lee of Avoca; also her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the American Heart Assoc., P.O. Box 417005, Boston, Mass. 02241-7005 or to the Finger Lakes SPCA, 7315 State Route 54, Bath, N.Y. 14810.
Arrangements are with the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca.

Ida Mae was my mother-in-law for five years and in that time I grew to love and respect her as a dear friend. She was kind an gentle and surely will be missed.
My Thoughts and Prayers are with you all… I so enjoyed Ida while she was in the County Home… will miss her..

We have known Ida Mae for many years. She always had a smile for us and was a caring person, good listener, and avid reader. She loved her Teddy Bears and family. We will miss her very much. Rest in Peace Ida Mae. I know you are among the Angels watching over all of us. We love you.
