HELEN P. BUCKLEY

HORNELL-Helen P. Buckley, 95, of Genesee St., passed away late Thursday evening (June 7, 2012) at Hornell Gardens, after a long illness.
Born in Brooklyn on Sept. 22, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Roman and Katherine Yoniak Pidkowicz. On May 17, 1947 she was married in Hornell to Henry Buckley who predeceased her in 1972 after 25 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her infant daughter and her two brothers, Stanley Pidkowicz and John Pidkowicz.
A resident of Hornell for most of her life, during her youth, Helen served as a papergirl for the Evening Tribune and attended St. Ann’s School, the Bryant School, Hornell Junior High School, graduated from Hornell Senior High School and later attended Alfred State College.
She was first employed with F.J.Snyder Construction Co. and eventually for the J.C. Penney Co., Shults & Shults Law Offices and retired from Steuben Trust Company in Hornell.
Helen was originally a member of the former Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Hornell and later became a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. Her other memberships included the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Ann; a Professional Business Sorority and the Professional Secretaries Association. Helen also served as a volunteer for the 40 Week Club and the Annual Thanksgiving Appeal of St. Ann’s Church as well as the March of Dimes.
Her family includes her two daughters, Kathleen Buckley of Olean and Linda Buckley of Hornell; her son, Kevin (Bev) Buckley of Westerville, Ohio; her brother, Joseph (Mary) Pidkowicz of West Palm Beach, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Doris Pidkowicz of Oak Park, Calif.; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours are from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.

  1. Kath, Linda and Kevin: I was so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was a special person in the lives of myself and my children – she never forgot their birthday’s and….my kids never forgot that. I went to visit her about 15 yrs ago when I was in Rochester and it was so good to see her. My family and I will keep her in our prayers.
