HAYDEN “JUNIOR” LUCKENBACH, JR.
AVOCA-Hayden “Junior” Luckenbach, Jr., 75, of 9180 Wallace Back Road, entered into rest late Tuesday morning (June 10, 2008) at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath where he was taken after becoming ill at his home.
Born in Springwater on Sept. 14, 1932, he was a son of the late Hayden Luckenbach Sr. and Geraldine Lang Luckenbach. On June 30, 1956, he was married at the Wallace Methodist Church to the former Barbara Reinhart, who survives.
A resident of Avoca for most of his life, Junior graduated from Avoca Central School.
He was employed for 20 years as the highway superintendent for the Town of Avoca and for 10 years he owned and operated the former Agway Gas Station in Avoca. He was also self- employed as a milk hauler for seven years and more recently was employed as a salesman for the Blair Supply Co. in Avoca.
Junior was a former volunteer for the Wallace Fire Department and was also a member of the fire department’s bowling team.
He enjoyed camping, horseshoes and could be often found working with tools in his garage. Most of all he will be remembered for his love of his grandkids.
His family includes his wife of nearly 52 years, Barbara; his three children, Jeffrey (Suzanne) Luckenbach of Avoca, Kimberly (Michael) Taylor of Cohocton and James (Wendy) Luckenbach of Dansville; his six grandchildren, Robert, Aaron, Austin, Tyler, Emily and Michelle; his two great-grandchildren, Ann Marie and Alexis; his two brothers, Lester (Sue) Luckenbach of Florida and Donald (Alice) Luckenbach of South Carolina; his sister, Eleanor (Gilbert) Partridge of Avoca; also his nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Clarence Luckenbach.
Calling hours are from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Friday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral and committal service will be held following calling hours at 7 p.m. Friday, with Pastor Sande Thomas officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of his family at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca.
Those wishing may contribute in his memory to either the Wallace Volunteer Fire Department or the Avoca Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
