GRACE M. MARGESON
AVOCA-Grace M. Margeson, 92, of Avoca, died early Tuesday morning (Apr. 5, 2011) at the Taylor Health Center in Bath.
Born in Wheeler on Aug. 25, 1918, she was the daughter of the late J. Wesley and Ada McKibbin Shults. On Nov. 20, 1937 she was married in Wheeler to Lee C. Margeson, who predeceased her on Feb. 4, 2006, after 68 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Ray Saltsman; her great-grandson, Robert Monicelli and her granddaughter-in-law, Deborah Saltsman.
A resident of the Howard and Avoca area for most of her life, Grace was a graduate of Avoca Central School.
She was a homemaker who was a long time active member of the Avoca Baptist Church where she was a member of the Emergency Club and served as the financial secretary for 14 years and a Sunday School teacher for 35 years. She was also a member of the Home Bureau Group and a member of the Farmer Grange for more than 40 years.
Grace enjoyed spending time crocheting and making afghans.
Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Sharon Margeson of Howard; her four grandchildren, Dawn Udave of Avoca, Diane (Joe) Difranco of Newark, Donna (Brian) Patterson and Daniel Saltsman all of Avoca; her two step grandchildren, Cheryl Lewis of Howard and Robert Lewis of Bath; her eight great-grandchildren, Crystal (Heath), Justin, Kayleigh, Kelly, Casey, Dillon, Hannah and Samuel.
Calling hours are from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Avoca Baptist Church, with Pastor Bill McFeaters officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, Avoca.
