GEORGE A. STEINER
NORTH HORNELL-George A. Steiner, 89, passed away Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 5, 2011) at his home on Seneca Road.
Born in Mansfield, Pa. on Aug. 10, 1921, he was the son of the late Arthur and Lavina Steiner. On Dec. 15, 1943 he was married in Hornell to the former Barbara Losey, who survives.
A graduate of Elkland (Pa.) High School, where he was a star basketball player, George was also a graduate of Ohio State College and graduated cum laude from St. Bonaventure University where he received his accounting degree.
He proudly served with the U.S. Army during World War II.
George resided in Hornell before moving to the Village of North Hornell where he has resided for about 65 years. For the past 52 years George and his family also spend the summer months at their home on Conesus Lake.
In 1949 he became a partner with Clifford Booth and operated Booth & Steiner Accounting now known as George A. Steiner, PC which he has owned and operated for over 50 years. For many years he also served as treasurer of numerous clubs and organizations.
A member of Christ Episcopal Church in Hornell, he was also a member of the Hornell Masonic Lodge No. 44, a member of the Corning Consistory, a life member of the Shriners of North America (Rochester Temple), the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 and the Hornell Elks Lodge No. 364. His other memberships include the Society of Independent Accountants, the National Society of Accountants, the National Association of Tax Professionals and the National Association of Enrolled Agents.
His family includes his wife of 67 years, Barbara; his two children, James Steiner of Palm Beach, Fla. and Donna Steiner of Hornell; his two grandchildren, Rachel and Jim Jr. both of Florida; and his great-grandchild, Joey also of Florida.
There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to meet his family at Christ Episcopal Church where a Requiem Mass will be celebrated in his memory at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. G. Cole Gruberth officiating. Military honor will follow the Requiem Mass.

Arrangements are with the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell.
Mr. Steiner, will be greatly missed by many. I will never forget what I learned from him in the years that I worked for him. I was always grateful for the nice things he did for me when I got married and when I had my first child. He was a wonderful man! I will keep his family in my prayers.
