HAMMONDSPORT – Frances M. Marroquin, of Hammondsport, NY and Tawas City, MI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2023. Born October 4, 1932 in McKeesport, PA she was the daughter of the late Carmen and Benita Mendez. Her life was a testament to her generous and loving spirit that was felt by all who knew her.
Frances married Eladio (Desi) R. Marroquin in 1955. She was a military spouse and worked as a homemaker, raising her three children until Eladio retired from the Air Force in 1965. Together they opened a Mexican restaurant in Oscoda, MI. They successfully opened multiple locations until they retired and sold the last restaurant in the late 1990’s. They generously supported the communities in which they lived, volunteering to help the poor and youth organizations through the Moose Lodge and other civic clubs. Frances loved to read, sew, and paint. She was a talented artist and often made Halloween costumes and quilts for her grandchildren.
Frances is survived by her children: Guadalupe Marroquin of Anchorage, AK, Dallas (Andrea) Marroquin of Brunswick, GA, and Benita (David) Nesbitt of Bath, NY; eight grandchildren: Camy, Patrick, Andrea, Ella, Jessica, John, Andrew, Mathew; eight great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Zachary, Edana, RJ, Lexi, Liam, Lincoln, Rhys, Jack; and one great-great-granddaughter: Kaydence.
Family and friends are invited to attend her memorial service to be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Saint Gabriel Catholic Church, 78 Shethar St., Hammondsport, NY with a celebration immediately afterwards in the fellowship hall in the lower level of the church. She was a lovely woman, sweet intelligent and just easy to be around. I know her family will miss her mightily. Glad I met her.
Fran was a very important part of my life as a teenager working at Desi’s. I felt like part of the family. Fran will be greatly missed. Prayers to her family through this difficult time. 🙏
I remember your mom, Lupe! She was such a nice lady! So sorry for your loss!
Each time I met Frances here and her daughter, Lupe’s Anchorage home, I was pleased to see her joy of life and pleasure, and being with her dear family. She will be missed.
So many amazing and wonderful memories early fishing mornings at Desi’s! My condolences to the entire family! Good bless you all during this time.
Remembering this sweet and kind mom is so heartwarming. She never met anyone she didn’t know, always generous and welcoming. I have such fond memories of her when I would spend the weekend with Lupe; helping in the bait shop and the restaurant; precious memories. Rest in peace Mrs Marroquin, you will be so very missed by so many. ❤️
