EVELYN MARIE PUTNAM OLMSTED

HORNELL-Evelyn Marie Putnam Olmsted, 82, of 167 River St., passed away unexpectedly late Tuesday morning, July 24 at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.
Born in the Town of Avoca on Sept. 8, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Bessie Reynolds Putnam. On Oct. 22, 1947, she was married to Alton Olmsted, who survives.
A former resident of Avoca, Evelyn graduated from Avoca Central School, where she was employed as a study hall monitor.
She resided in Reelsboro, NC before returning to the Avoca and Hornell area.
Evelyn enjoyed reading, dancing, crocheting, knitting as well as watching the Braves on T.V.
Her family includes her husband of 64 years, Alton; her son, Ronnie (Sue) Olmsted of Gillette, WY.; her daughter, Terry (Tom) Drum of Hornell; her daughter-in-law, Kathy Wightman Olmsted of Harleyville, PA; her six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothea Stowe of Avoca; her brother, Earl Putnam; also several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her two sons, Dale and Bradley Olmsted and her two brothers, Paul and Richard Putnam.
There will be no calling hours or services.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the American Heart Assoc., P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 or to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech St., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790.
Arrangements are with the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca.

  3. You were a lovely and talented woman and I’m fortunate that your life paths crossed with mine in many ways. May God have your soul rest with Dale, Brad and your brothers. And may he also give Terry, Ronnie and Al comfort during this time.

Evelyn was a Great lady and I’m glad to have had the privilage of spending time with her and Al when I was growing up. Our paths have not crossed in a few years but you have left an impact on my life and for that I’m grateful.
