Eric Stanley Boggis

Penn Yan  Eric Stanley Boggis 92, of Homestead Nursing Home, Penn Yan, passed away Sunday (May 3, 2009) at Geneva Hospital.

He was born September 3, 1916 in Portsmouth, England. He was a Cavalry Staff Sergeant in the British Army. A decorated veteran of Dunkirk & World War II. He also served in India, Africa & Egypt. He married Marjorie Oliver and immigrated to the United States in 1960.

Eric was an accomplished gardener & landscaper both in the US and England. And at one time was head gardener for the Duchess of Newcastle, in Wiltshire, England. He was a skilled horseman, enjoyed traveling and living an adventurous life! He will be greatly missed by his family.

He is survived by four daughters, Sandra (Roland) Brown or Bath, Karen (James) Thompson of Syracuse, Pamela (William) Allen of Arlington, TX and Gillian (Richard) Stocking, or Syracuse; one grand-daughter, Annie Hines of Syracuse, six grandsons, Scott Stocking of Syracuse, Darrell Buckley of Bath, Christopher & Michael Allen of Arlington, TX, Bryce & Kevin Thompson of Syracuse, one great-granddaughter, Abigail Hines; three great-grandsons, Collin Hines, Ethan Buckley & Gavin Buckley.

Eric’s funeral service will take place Monday, May 11th, 2009 at 7pm. at St Thomas Episcopal Church with the Rev Brad Benson officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St Thomas Episcopal Church, 122 Liberty St., Bath, NY 14810

Arrangements are with the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca.
