EDWIN (ED) FRANCIS LOUCKS
AVOCA Edwin (Ed) Francis Loucks, a lifelong resident of Avoca, passed into eternal peace on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at the age of 86. Ed was born December 17, 1924 in the village of Avoca. He was the second son of Daniel and Bernice (Carroll) Loucks. He grew up on the family farm near Loucks Pond and graduated from Avoca Central High School in June of 1943. He married the love of his life, Yolande Dugas, in June of 1952. She predeceased him July 1, 2009. Always a loving and faithful husband, Eds life revolved around Yolande and their family. A daughter, Claudia, was born in August of 1953. Her brief life ended in the spring of 1954. Three more children were born and survive their father: Giselle (David) Tyner, Edwin II (Debra) Loucks, and Dr. Roger (Catherine) Loucks. Ed was lovingly called Papa by his three grandchildren, all of whom survive him: Army Captain Timothy (Autumn) Tyner, Leigh (Brandon) Graber, and Sarah Loucks. Eds family continues to grow and now also includes two great granddaughters, Cheyenne and Savannah Tyner. Eds children and grandchildren will deeply miss their devoted father and grandfather who was always so proud of them. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive including his first nephew, Gary Loucks, of Hammondsport.
Ed was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting. For 15 years he and his dear friend, Robert (Bob) Kellogg, ran the Hunter Safety Program as volunteers instilling in new hunters that safety must always come first. Ed loved having his and Yolandes friends over to his home and playing card games such as Rook and Up-the-River-Down-the-River. As soon as the frost danger was over, Ed would plant a garden that always yielded great produce throughout the summer months. He took great pride in his home keeping it well maintained with the yard and shrubs always neatly trimmed. Ed retired from Avoca Central School after 33 years of service.
Yolande always called him Eddy, and the staff at the Taylor Health Center did also. Eddys family wishes to extend its most heartfelt thanks and gratitude to every staff member there for the wonderful, compassionate, and loving care he received. You are truly angels of mercy in the eyes of his family.
Calling hours for Ed will be at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca from 1-3 PM on Saturday, March 5th.Masonic and funeral services will immediately follow.
Committal services and interment will follow at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Avoca Hose Company, Chase St., Avoca, N.Y. 14809.
Giselle, Edwin and Roger. I am so sorry to hear about your Dad. He and your mother were such good people and great friends of our family. Now Yo has her Eddy with her and they can be together in heaven. Please don’t lose touch with my mom, she loves all of you so much!!

So sorry to hear about Ed’s passing. I have always remembered him fondly as my favorite (maybe only) bus driver. He was the best.
