EARL O. “BUD†ESTEY
ARKPORT/HORNELL-Earl O. “Bud†Estey, 91, a former resident of Arkport and Green Acres Mobile Home Park in Hornell, passed away Thursday morning (June 23, 2016) at Elderwood of Hornell, where he has resided for nearly the past two years.
Born in Turlock, Calif. on May 17, 1925, he was a son of the late Wilmot and Myrtle (Wright) Estey. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his three sisters, Irene Smalley, Madeline Baird and Alice England; also his two brothers, Patrick Estey and Rudolph Estey.
A former resident of New Brunswick, Canada, Bud attended school there and was married in Centerville, New Brunswick, Canada in 1950 to the former Fernand J. “Fern†Boucher, who survives.
His love for farming began at an early age when he assisted his family on their farm, later after moving to Arkport, where he resided for 61 years, he was employed by the Goodwin Potato Farm from 1954 to 1972 and worked part time for the Jenkins Farm. In 1972 he began his employment with Arkport Central School and retired as the head of maintenance in 1992.
Bud was an active member of the Bishopville United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering at the church breakfasts; where he could often be found in the kitchen washing dishes. He was also a former member of the Arkport Exchange Club and the Buds and Blossoms dance group.
He especially liked to keep busy and spent time gardening, raising raspberries and mowing lawns for private residences and commercial properties.
His loving family includes his wife of 66 years, Fern; his three children, Jane Roselie (Neal) Estey-Harris of Black Mountain, N.C., Robert (Sandy) Estey of Montour Falls and Richard Estey of Caledonia; his four grandchildren, Marcy (Sam) Brubaker, Heather (Shane) McHale, Jennifer (Eric) Woodworth and Christopher (Holly) Estey; also his eight grandchildren and his brother, Fred Estey of Fairport; as well his nieces and nephews.
His family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Elderwood of Hornell for the wonderful care he received while he resided there.

Calling hours are 2-4 p.m. Tuesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held in his memory following callings hours at 4 p.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Pam Carey officiating. Private interment will be in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Bishopville United Methodist Church, 8528 Bishopville Road, Arkport, N.Y. 14807. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home
Bud was one of the first people and one of the nicest I met when I returned to Arkport in 1981. No matter what the question or request, Bud had the answer and such a willing and cheerful spirit to provide whatever assistance was required. He was a pleasure to work with and to count a friend. We send our condolences to all of his family and friends. God Bless you, Fern, and comfort all of you in your loss.
As a kid we would all enjoy a visit from Uncle Buddy when he would go to Bridgewater, Maine for a load of seed potatoes for his employer in Arkport. We usually knew he was coming because my mother,his sister Irene, would have two different kinds of pie for dessert.This was special as we would only have one kind. When asked what kind of pie he would like, he would naturally say “one of each !”
Always jovial and loved to share a story in his big booming voice and hearty laugh.
He will be greatly missed by us all.
