DOROTHY SHINEBARGER REITNAUER

HORNELL-Dorothy Shinebarger Reitnauer, 85, formerly of Cameron St. in North Hornell, died late Wednesday evening (Dec. 22, 2010) at Hornell Gardens, where she has resided for the past six years.
Born in Hornell on March 5, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd E. and Bessie Bentley Shinebarger. On Sept. 6, 1952 she was married to Charles Richard Reitnauer, Jr., who predeceased her in 1972 after 20 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her brother, Richard E. Shinebarger.
A life long resident of Hornell, Dorothy graduated from Hornell High School with the class of 1943.
She was employed for many years as a secretary for the former OConnor Bros. Inc. in Hornell, for the Hornell City School District and retired in 1988 from Alfred University.
Dorothy was a life long member of the former St. Pauls United Church of Christ in Hornell where she was a charter member and served several terms as president of Group IV, a Sunday School teacher, a supervisor of the Girls Guild, a member of the Adult Club, a member of the Womens Guild, serving several terms as treasurer, and also served several terms on the Church Council as a secretary.
She was also a former member of the Alpha Delta Chapter of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, the Jennie Rockwell Circle of the former Bethesda Community Hospital, the Hornell Fortnightly Club, the Ivanhoe Chapter of the Eastern Star, the Hornell High School Alumni Assoc., and was also a former volunteer for RSVP.
Her family includes her daughter, Bonnie (John) Batty of California; her son, James R. Reitnauer of Liverpool (friend, Jan Cook); her two grandchildren, Lauren and Michael Batty both of California; her sister, Ruth Fitzpatrick of North Hornell; her dear friend, Robert Ward of Canandaigua; also several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Friday (Jan. 14) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (Jan. 15). Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to either the Alzheimers Assoc., 435 E. Henrietta Rd., Rochester, N.Y. 14620 or to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning, N.Y. 14830. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
