DONALD F. HORTON

WAYNE – Donald F. Horton, 55 years old of Wayne, NY passed away with friends and family surrounding him at home on Tuesday (May 30, 2023) after a long battle.

Donald was predeceased by his father, Francis Horton and mother, Laura MacIntire. Donald is survived by stepmother, Joan Horton; daughter, Brittany Morgan; granddaughters, Briar and Blake; his dog, Oakley; three sisters, Tina Stanton, Dana McLoud, Holly Harvey; stepsisters, Tonya Niland, Sonja Conover and Lucy Clingerman; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Donald retired as a Sergeant after dedicating 28 years to the New York State Department of Corrections. Following his retirement, he continued to serve the Department of Corrections with the Steuben County Sheriff Department. For 41 years Donny devoted himself to the Wayne Fire Department as an active firefighter, EMT and Commissioner. Donald was continually helping others and never expected anything in return, even in the toughest times. Donny’s courage and spirit live on as we echo his words, “push on, push thru.” We ask that you remember him doing what he loved, spending time on Keuka Lake surrounded by his beloved friends, family and Oakley.

Services will be on Saturday, (June 10, 2023) at the Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., in HAMMONDSPORT, NY. Calling hours will be 10 am-12 pm, with a funeral service at 12 pm. Fireman services will follow at the Wayne Cemetery. Following the Fireman Service there will be a celebration of life at the Wayne Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wayne Fire Department, PO Box 91, Wayne, NY 14893.

  1. Donny was kind of a celebrity on our house when we were all young. My parents were members of the Wayne Fire Department, thats how we knew Donny. He would drive past our house in a small pickup truck and honk his horn the full length of our property, and we would all together exclaim “Donny Horton!” He had an impactful presence that brought joy.

  2. Donny was a gifted, caring, and inspiring EMT; a valued colleague and cherished friend.
    They don’t make men finer.

  3. I worked with Donny for several years at Willard DTC. He always had a joke to make you laugh on a tough day and was a positive person in a sometimes negative environment. He was pretty much a friend to all. Bless you Donny, I know you are in a better place!

  4. Don, thanks for being an awesome boss! I learned so much from your example. I will be praying for your family on June 10th. I will miss the service, but never will forget who you are!

  5. Don and I were EMTs at the same time. He was always so upbeat and positive, willing to lend a hand. I will miss him.

  6. Donny and I worked together at Elmira and Willard…he was blunt and to the point, but also caring and willing to listen. Love you brother.

  7. Donnie and I sometimes didn’t see eye to eye. Yet he was my younger brother and I loved him. We tried to make our younger years fun and our older ones as supportive as we could be. Donnie knew the real me. I was proud of the way that he showed a loving responsibility in his service to others. Love you kiddo. Your sister Tina and your niece Connie.

  8. Donnie, you fought a tough battle, you are at peace now, pain free. Have known you for a long time. We Gaylors are going to miss you.
    R.I.P. ❤️🌹🙏🥰
