Diane Marie Emerson Diesel

BATH – We are deeply saddened to announce the sudden passing of Diane Marie Emerson Diesel, 71, on Friday, November 24, 2023. Diane was the second daughter of Mary Ellen (Coon) and the late Richard James Emerson. She was born October 4, 1952 at Bath Hospital. Diane was a graduate of Haverling High School and Corning Community College. Over the years, Diane worked as a medical administrative assistant for clinics and offices in Bath. For the last nine years Diane enjoyed working at Shaw Insurance with her longtime friend and neighbor, Ellen Shaw-Maceko, while easing her way into retirement.

Diane was married to the love of her life, Edward John Diesel Jr., for 31 years, before his passing in 2010. Together they created a beautiful family who loved spending time together. They especially loved their vacations at the New Jersey shore. After Ed’s passing, she loved her annual vacations to the lake with her mom and children. She also loved reading, watching Hallmark movies, and playing games. Diane loved the time she spent helping with the Keuka Lake Players, volunteering at the Food Pantry, and participating in the PTA when her children were in school.

When Diane loved, she loved hard. And when Diane loved you, she would fight for you. There are countless stories of Diane going to war for those she loved. Diane had a sometimes irreverent, but always amusing, sense of humor and a contagious laugh. She was especially silly when she played games with her sister, Barb. She was also known to crack herself up.

Predeceasing Diane is her father, Richard Emerson, husband Edward Diesel, sister Barbara Sutton (David), nephew Timothy Sutton, and Papa Harold, Harold French. Surviving her is her mother, Mary Emerson of Bath, New York, daughters Jill Marie (Damin) Terrill of Hammondsport, New York, Kristin Michelle Diesel of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Mary Elizabeth Diesel of Seneca Falls, New York, bonus daughter Shauna (Jeffrey) Swenson of Meridian, Idaho, and brother, David (Cathy) Emerson of Delmar, Maryland, along with many nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She will be greatly missed by her entire family, childhood friends, Hammondsport Methodist Church friends, and many other friends she made throughout her life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hammondsport Ambulance or Bath Centenary Methodist Church in her memory.

An hour of calling will be held Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 11:00am -12:00pm with the service following at the Bath Centenary Methodist Church.

The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main S., HAMMONDSPORT is honored to assist Diane’s family with the arrangements.
