CAROL A. JUNE
HORNELL-Carol Arline June, 84, of 270 Walnut St., passed away Friday (March 21, 2008) at Hornell Gardens where she has resided for the past three weeks.
Born in Elmira on April 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Winton and Beatrice New Campbell.
A graduate of Avoca High School, Carol was employed in Elmira during World War II supporting the war effort.
In April of 1944 she married John Glenn June and settled down in Hornell. She and John were married 62 years before he passed away in January of 2007.
Carol was employed at the Department of Motor Vehicles in Hornell for 31 years, retiring in 1988 as a supervisor.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and would spend hours laughing while playing board games and cards. She was also known to jitterbug or do the Charleston when she heard a good tune. Carol also loved to travel throughout the United States and always made the summer vacations with the family very special. All the tourist traps were favorite stops on the road trips. She was quite adventurous for being a small town girl. Carol and John made their annual trips to Daytona for the NASCAR road race and spent several weeks a year seeing the countryside, visiting friends and family. She collected numerous knickknacks and took many pictures. Carol loved animals and was known to open her door and heart to the many strays who showed up. She served as a past secretary for the Hornell Area Humane Society.
Her family includes her five children, Kathryn (Erv) Mutton of Georgia, Patricia (Charles) Libordi of Hornell, Richard (Kathy) June of California, Philip June of Arizona and David (Lisa) June of California; also her 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours. A private family prayer service will be held at the convenience of her family at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, with the Rev. David Kilgore officiating. Interment will be in Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that contributions in her memory may be made to the Hornell Area Humane Society, PO Box 533, Hornell, NY 14843 or to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 E. Corning Rd., Corning, NY 14830.
