Bert J. “Jim” Randall
ARKPORT-Bert J. “Jim” Randall, 74, of Bishopville Road, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning (Sept. 2, 2017) at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where he was taken after becoming ill at his home.
Born in Wayland on April 12, 1943, he was a son of the late George and Sadie (Beman) Randall. Besides his parents he was also predeceased by his sister, Sally Randall; and his two brothers, George “Spud” Randall and Steve Randall.
A former resident of Springwater, Jim and his family eventually moved to Hornell where he resided on the family farm on Tobes Hill and attended Hornell High School and graduated from Canisteo Central School, class of 1961.
He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1962 to his honorable discharge in 1965. On Nov. 23, 1963 he married the former Carol Jones at the First Baptist Church in Hornell. They resided at Ft. Devens and Fitchburg, Mass. and, after his military service, they returned to the Hornell area and resided in Stephens Mills before moving to their home on Bishopville Road about 35 years ago.
Jim was employed as a machinist for the former Erie Railroad in Hornell before he became employed as a diesel mechanic and supervisor with the former M-K and later with Alstom in Hornell. He retired about 10 years ago as a truck driver for Silk Road Transport in Arkport.
An antique car enthusiast, Jim was especially fond of Mustangs and enjoyed attending car shows. He also liked to spend time in his woodshop at his home but most of all he truly loved to spend time with his family, especially his wife, daughters and grandson.
His loving family includes his wife of nearly 54 years, Carol; his two daughters, Stephanie (Todd) Becker of Rochester and Cindy Randall and his grandson, Seth Artley, both of Ontario, N.Y.; his siblings, Mary (Mark) Davidson, Walter (Robin) Randall and Paul Randall all of Hornell, Jack Randall of Scio, Roy Randall (Noreen Valez) of Hornell, April (Roger) Brown of Hallstead, Pa., and Laurel Randall (Sandy Brethorst) of Rio, Wisc.; also his sister-in-law, Aletha Randall of Ovid; as well as his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Bert J. “Jim” Randall.
To honor his wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
