ALMOND – Barbara Jean McMichael, 71, passed peacefully Sunday morning (March 31, 2024) at her home on Bishopville Road, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in Hornell on Jan. 24, 1953 she was a daughter of the late Newell and Betty (Vosburg) Butler. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by one brother, James “Jim” Butler and two nephews, Mark Butler and Shane Butler.

A graduate of Hornell High School class of 1971, Barb was employed as a cashier at the former K-Mart in Hornell and later as the office manager at former Super-Duper in Hornell.

She and Pete McMichael spent 43 wonderful, loving years together. They resided on North Main Street Ext. in Hornell before moving to their home on Bishopville Road (Town of Almond); where they loved mowing, maintaining and enjoying their property.  For many years, during the winter months, they resided in Fruitland Park, FL.

Throughout the years, Barb was a member of the Arkport American Legion Post and the AmVets in Hornell and Leesburg, Fl.

She was an avid bingo player and was fortunate to win quite often. She also enjoyed trips to the casino in Salamanca.

Barb will be remembered most of all for being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Pete McMichael; 10 children, Sabrina Coe Sharkey of Oneida, NY, Chad (Michelle) Butler of Corning, NY, Clifford (Bria) McMichael of Elkhart, IN, Curk McMichael (Jenn Hobbie) of Watkins Glen, NY, Patricia (Matt) Gambino of Greenville, SC, David (Amy) McMichael of Hornell, Michelle (Chuck) Chamberlin of Hornell, Eddie McMichael of South Dansville, NY, Stacy (John) Baumgarten of Hudson, FL and Shawn (Kelly) McMichael of Hornell; 20 grandchildren, Jack, Maxwell, Kennedy, Devyn, Riley, Thomas, Cohen, Raina, Nathan, Emily, Timothy, Holley, William, Phillip, Edward, Jaymes, Chelsea, Alexis, Mason and Grace; one great-granddaughter  and two great-grandsons; one sister, Beverly Bertram of Canisteo, NY; two brothers, Andy (Pat) Butler and Richard (Diane) Butler all of Hornell; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Barb’s special friends in Leesburg, Fl for their support and extending a helping hand whenever it was needed.

To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be held beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday (April 27, 2024) at the Hornell AmVets at 28 Broadway.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to their favorite charity.

The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to assist Barb’s family with the arrangements.
