BARBARA J. OYER

HORNELL-Barbara J. Oyer, 86, of County Route 70A, Big Creek Road, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning (Jan. 1, 2013) at the Steuben County Health Care Facility in Bath.
Born in Hornell on Jan. 29, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Jennie May Montgomery. On June 16, 1948, she was married at the former Park United Methodist Church in Hornell to Edward Oyer, who predeceased her on Oct. 28, 2001 after 55 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Ruth Montgomery.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Barbara was a graduate of Hornell High School.
Besides being a homemaker, she and her husband owned and operated Twin Tiers Specialties, an upholstery business from their home.
Barbara was a member of United Methodist Church in Hornell, the Ivanhoe Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 160, Maple Court No. 24, Order of Amaranth and the White Shrine of Jerusalem.
Her family includes her five children, Michael Oyer, Sr. of Florida, Paul Oyer of Castile, E.J. (Barbara) Oyer of Hornell, William (Karin) Oyer of Hornell and Barbara (Rob) Nelson of Guilford, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her sister, Carolyn (Robert) Reynolds of Blasdell; also several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will be held following calling hours at 1 p.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Robert Oyer officiating. Committal services and interment will follow at Rural Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
