Place of Residence Hornell

HORNELL – Barbara J. Clancy, 83, of North Main Street Ext., and most recently a resident of Updyke’s Willow Ridge, entered into rest late Sunday evening (Oct. 19, 2025) at St. James Hospital in Hornell, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born in North Hornell on June 12, 1942 she was the daughter of the late William and Roberta (Goff) Bishop. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, George Bishop.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Barb was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1960. After graduation, she began her employment with the former Erie-Lackawanna Railroad Accounting Bureau in Hornell and Scranton, Pa. She was a “stay-at-home Mom” while her children were growing up and later, she became employed with the former Gemmell Installation, Key Drugs and Fay’s in Hornell, and retired from the Arkport branch of the former Steuben Trust Company as an assistant branch supervisor.

Throughout the years, Barbara was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, a lifetime member of the AZB Sorority, a member of the Hornell Alumni Association and the Ladies Auxiliary of Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 in Hornell. An avid Buffalo Bills fan, she also enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and school activities.

Barb will be remembered most of all for being a “professional” shopper and cleaner.

She is lovingly survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard “Dick” Clancy; three children, Bridgit (Christopher) Buono, Richard (Patricia) Clancy and James (Brenda) Clancy; five grandchildren, Shawn (Renee) Buono, Patrick (Joan) Clancy, Jaden Roberta Buono, Taylor (Joe) Horton and Carson Clancy; one brother, Daniel (Mindy) Bishop; a “special sister” Marlene White; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as two sisters-in-law, Margaret Clancy and Mary O’Connor.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the entire staff at Updyke’s Willow Ridge for the wonderful care they provided to Barbara.

Calling hours are 4-6 p.m. THURSDAY (Oct. 23, 2025) at the Bishop-Johnson & Desanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell, where a funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. FRIDAY (Oct. 24, 2025) with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating. A committal service and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Hornell High School Alumni Association, P.O. Box 135, Hornell, NY 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.

The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home is honored to assist Barbara’s family with the arrangements.
