ANNE P. MAURO
HORNELL-Anne P. Mauro, 79, of Bennett St., passed away late Friday afternoon (Sept. 23, 2016) in the presence of her loving husband of 60 years and her five children at Elderwood of Hornell, where she has resided for the past six months.
Born in North Hornell on Feb. 9, 1937, she was a daughter of the late William and Frances (Haight) Prior. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Karen Berry.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Anne was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1955.
She dedicated her life to her husband and children; her family was her pride and joy.
Anne was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell. At one time she served as a Campfire leader and enjoyed doing crafts, ceramics, knitting, crocheting and will be remembered for her “green thumb.†She and Joe were avid Yankees fans and enjoyed car rides together. They were their children’s and grandchildren’s greatest supporters and never missed attending any of their sporting events throughout the years.
Her loving family includes her devoted husband, Joseph, who she married 60 years ago on July 21, 1956 at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell; her five children, Cynthia (Kenneth) Freeland of Aiken, S.C., Joseph (Teri) Mauro of Hornell, William Mauro (Marcus Laurence) of Jim Thorpe, Pa. and her twin daughters, Linda Mauro (Erica Alger) and Mary Mauro all of Hornell; her 11 grandchildren, Kevin (Miraya) Freeland, Kelly Freeland, Thomas Freeland (Jessica Lee), James (Cassie) Mauro, Jennifer (Timothy) Harris, Kathryn (Thomas) Zaccardo, Joseph Mauro, Michael Mauro, Matthew Mauro, Nicholas Scammell and Zachary Scammell; her eight great-grandchildren; her brother, Jerry (Bev) Prior of Hornell; also her nieces and nephews.
The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. in Hornell is honored to serve the family of Anne P. Mauro.
Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, town of Fremont.
