ANNA MARIE DAMRATH
HORNELL-Anna Marie Damrath, 83, of Hornell, passed away late Saturday evening (Sept. 3, 2011) in the presence of her children and grandchildren.
Born in Hornell on Oct. 8, 1927, she was a daughter of the late John and Anna Kelly Carrig. On Oct. 2, 1965, she was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to John “Jack” Damrath, who predeceased her on July 15, 1972. Besides her parents and husband she was also predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and Francis Carrig and her sister, Mary Rose Carrig.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Anna Marie was a graduate of St. Ann’s School, Hornell High School and received an associate’s degree in Business Administration from Alfred State College in the 1980’s.
She was employed for over 40 years at A.L. Blades & Sons in Hornell and part time for the former Cilano Electric where she prepared the payroll.
Anna Marie was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a daily communicant of St. Ann’s Church where she was also a member of the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Her other memberships included the Hornell Business & Professional Women (BPW) and the Hornell High School Alumni Association.
An active member of the Democratic Party she also served as election inspector. For several years she served as a secretary for the Bethesda Foundation.
Her family includes her three children, Nancy Schoeni of Fontana, Calif., Joseph (Patty) Damrath of Hornell and Bonnie (Gary) Grausgruber of Alexandria Bay; her seven grandchildren, Julie Schoeni, Lucy, Amy and Stephen Grausgruber, Caitlin (Marty) DiPetta, Colleen and John Damrath; her sister, Virginia Pieklo of Hornell; her brother, Raymond (Margaret) Carrig of Canisteo; also her many special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Carol and Debbie for the loving care they gave to Anna Marie during her illness.
Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 27 Erie Ave., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
