RONALD J. DICKEY
HORNELL-Ronald J. Dickey, 54, of Thacher St., passed away suddenly late Sunday afternoon (Jan. 27, 2013) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, where he was taken after becoming ill at his home.
Born in Hornell on April 30, 1958 he was a son of the late Roy and Jeannette Helmer Dickey.
A lifelong resident of Hornell, Ron was a graduate of Hornell High School, Class of 1976; and was employed as a truck driver for several different companies as a long distance hauler.
Ron was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hornell and enjoyed fishing and watching sports. He was also an avid N.Y. Yankees and Cleveland Browns fan.
His family includes his sister, Patricia Green; his brother, Robert (Carol) Dickey all of Hornell; he will be remembered as a “father figure” to his sister’s children, Christopher (Michelle) Green of Fayetteville, N.C., Cheri (Geoff) O’Dell of Allegany, N.Y., Janice (Kelley) Louthan-Green of Naples, N.Y. and Jeffrey Green of Raleigh, N.C. He is also survived by two nieces, Karen Dickey (Christopher) Lyons of Disputanta, Va. and Heather Dickey (Eric) Bischoff of Gaylord, Mich.; as well as five great nieces, five great nephews, several cousins and his special friend, Connie Dunn.
Calling hours are from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell where a funeral service will be held in his memory following calling hours at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Private interment will be at Hope Cemetery, Hornell.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to either the First Baptist Church, 28 Church St., Hornell or the Hornell YMCA Pool Fund, 12 Center St., Hornell, N.Y. 14843. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
Rest in peace Uncle Ron. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Ron was truly one of those people who you will never forget. His passing leaves a hole in our lives that we all wish we could get back. We all know that up above the stories are being told to the loved ones that we all miss.
Pat, I am so sorry to hear about your little brother. I hope you and your family are strong in this time of grief and you find solice in each other. I try to keep up on news of Hornell and was saddened to hear of Ron’s passing, but it was thoughts of you that sadden me so.Please know my thoughts are with you……
