HAMMONDSPORT – Lewis “Lew” Hall from Hammondsport was born on March 27, 1951 in Penn Yan, NY and passed away at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY on Monday (March 18, 2024) surrounded by family.

Lewis was predeceased by his mother, Yvonne McConnell; stepfather, Jack McConnell; sister, Michelle Cavanaugh; brothers, Michael McConnell and Matt McConnell; grandchildren, Gavin Hall, Garrett Hall and Abrianna “Abby” Sack.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deborah; his daughter, Stacia (Terry) Dalaba; son, Jeremy (Tammy) Hall; grandchildren, Kelsey (Jacob) Gardner, Kagan Hall, Cole Hall and Owen Hall; brother, Rod (Mary) McConnell; sisters, Bambi (Jim) Caron, Toni Campbell, Patti Comstock and Jackie (Bob) Hennigan; as well as sisters-in-law, Donna, Diane and Kay and many “favorite” nieces and nephews.

Lewis was employed by Taylor Winery for many years until its closing. He then worked for Frey & Campbell before becoming self-employed until his retirement.

If he couldn’t fix it, no one was going to be able to, and he loved sharing his knowledge on how to do it with whomever he could.

He coached youth sports starting with Little League and then coaching girls’ soccer, boys’ basketball and track for Hammondsport school. Many of the ones he coached still called him coach when they saw him.

Lew was also an avid hunter, loved to fish, play golf and in his younger days loved to play softball.

Lew was a past commander of the Hammondsport American Legion S.A.L., a member of the Hammondsport Village Board as well as the Bath Country Club Board of Directors. He was a member of the Hammondsport American Legion and the Bath Country Club.

  1. Dear Deb and extended family, It is with deep sadness to learn of Lew’s passing. We first met Lew as he was working our Rt 87 house during the new building process. We always had fun bantering with Lew whether it was while he was working, or at the Legion or even around town whenever we would see him. We have watched as your family grew and heard the pride in his voice as Lew would update us on them. We do ask God to bless you all with good memories of happier times together. Know that there are many are thinking of you and praying for you as you go through these difficult days ahead.
Please accept our most sincere condolences here from NC.
