HAMMONDSPORT – Lewis “Lew” Hall from Hammondsport was born on March 27, 1951 in Penn Yan, NY and passed away at the Arnot-Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY on Monday (March 18, 2024) surrounded by family.
Lewis was predeceased by his mother, Yvonne McConnell; stepfather, Jack McConnell; sister, Michelle Cavanaugh; brothers, Michael McConnell and Matt McConnell; grandchildren, Gavin Hall, Garrett Hall and Abrianna “Abby” Sack.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Deborah; his daughter, Stacia (Terry) Dalaba; son, Jeremy (Tammy) Hall; grandchildren, Kelsey (Jacob) Gardner, Kagan Hall, Cole Hall and Owen Hall; brother, Rod (Mary) McConnell; sisters, Bambi (Jim) Caron, Toni Campbell, Patti Comstock and Jackie (Bob) Hennigan; as well as sisters-in-law, Donna, Diane and Kay and many “favorite” nieces and nephews.
Lewis was employed by Taylor Winery for many years until its closing. He then worked for Frey & Campbell before becoming self-employed until his retirement.
If he couldn’t fix it, no one was going to be able to, and he loved sharing his knowledge on how to do it with whomever he could.
He coached youth sports starting with Little League and then coaching girls’ soccer, boys’ basketball and track for Hammondsport school. Many of the ones he coached still called him coach when they saw him.
Lew was also an avid hunter, loved to fish, play golf and in his younger days loved to play softball.
Lew was a past commander of the Hammondsport American Legion S.A.L., a member of the Hammondsport Village Board as well as the Bath Country Club Board of Directors. He was a member of the Hammondsport American Legion and the Bath Country Club.
Calling hours are Noon to 2 p.m. Sunday (March 24, 2024) at the Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., HAMMONDSPORT with a funeral service to follow, with Rev. Don Peek officiating. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hammondsport American Legion following the funeral service.
