Roseann C. Lawrence
ARKPORT – Roseann C. Lawrence, 94, of Arkport passed away Wednesday, (June 15, 2022) following a long illness.
Born in Perkinsville, NY on September 24, 1927, she was the second oldest sibling of the nine children of Arthur and Magdalen Malter. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in Perkinsville and graduated early at the top of her class from Wayland Central School. After graduation she worked at the Gunlocke Company, serving as personal secretary to its owner Howard Gunlocke.
In 1954 she met Herman “Donny” Lawrence from Arkport and the two were married on May 7, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church in Perkinsville. They began their life together on the family farm on Oak Hill with Roseann being the driving force serving as bookkeeper, helping in the fields, cleaning, cooking, and keeping the milk house immaculate well into her 80’s!
Donny passed away on December 27, 2004 leaving the farm in the good hands of his two sons.
Roseann is survived by Barbara (Larry) Jones, John (April) Lawrence, and Jamie Lawrence all from Arkport. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Kristi (John) Gemmell, Nick (Brecken) Jones of Swain, Travis (Kirsten) Lawrence of Hornell, Marc (Morgan) Lawrence of Montgomery, Alabama; plus 13 great-grandchildren! She is also survived by three sisters, Marlene Wellington of Fort Meyers, Florida, Dorothy “Dottie” (Len) Wager and Sally (Bud) Higginbatham all from Wayland; one brother, John (Kathy) Malter from Perkinsville; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Roseann is pre-deceased by one sister, Kay Walters; three brothers, Steven Malter, Arthur “Buddy” Malter, and Frank Malter; two sisters-in-law, Betty Malter and Joyce Malter; and three brothers-in-law, Charles Wellington, Art Walters, and Donny Brooks.
Calling hours are 1-3 p.m. Sunday (June 19, 2022) at the Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell. Relatives and friends are invited to join her family at St. Ann’s Church, 31 Erie Ave., Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday (June 20, 2022). Committal prayers and interment will follow at Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport.
