ROSAMONDE J. “ROSE” KETCHUM STEELE

BATH – Rosamonde J. “Rose” Ketchum Steele, of Ash St., passed away Friday (Jan. 20, 2023) at Fred and Harriet Taylor Health Center, after a short illness.

Born in Hammondsport on Jan. 8, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Genevieve (Brown) Rice.  Besides her parents she was predeceased by first husband, Jan Ketchum; second husband Guy Steele; brothers William Rice, Harold Rice; and sister Margery (Rice) Beers.

Rose graduated from Hammondsport Central School and continued her education at the Corning Community College School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse.

She had a love for caring for people, using her nursing degree as she moved around the country.  She worked in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and again in New Hampshire.  The second time living in New Hampshire she owned and operated her own nurse staffing agency.  After selling that business, she moved to Florida and worked for the Florida Department of Corrections.  Ultimately returning to New York, she worked as the Wine Room Tasting Manager at Bully Hill Winery, until her retirement.

Rose loved her cats, playing euchre, painting, and visiting with friends.  She was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She is lovingly survived by her four children, Bradley (Staci) Ketchum of Virginia, Brian (Becky) Ketchum of Hammondsport, Brenda (Tim) Peters of New Hampshire, and Brandon Ketchum of California; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brother Richard (Susan) Rice of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

To honor her wishes there will be no calling hours or services.

The family would like to expend their gratitude and thanks to all the staff that cared for Rose at Fred and Harriet Taylor Health Center.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Finger Lakes SPCA, 72 Cameron St., Bath, NY 14810.

The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., Hammondsport is honored to assist Rose’s family with the arrangements.
