NANCY CAROL GLOVER
ARKPORT – Nancy C. Glover, 85, passed away following a long illness on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Noyes Memorial Hospital in Dansville, NY.
Born in North Hornell, NY on December 15, 1939, she was a daughter of the late Elton Raymond Amidon and Ida May (Munson) Amidon. On October 18, 1958 she was married to Larry J. Glover at the Bishopville United Methodist Church. Larry predeceased her on October 4, 2007.
A lifelong resident of the Arkport area, Nancy graduated from Arkport Central School, Class of 1957. She started her career with New York Telephone as a part-time operator while a senior in high school. From that initial job she formed many friendships that would remain throughout her life. Following her long career with NY Telephone she would go on to hold Executive Administration positions at NYS Electric and Gas, Alfred State College, and Alstom in Hornell.
Nancy will always be remembered for her giving heart, and her ability to be organized. Whether it was at the office, or coordinating and hosting large family gatherings, whether at her home or at Keuka Lake, where the extended family vacationed every year, she was always in control! Nancy was very active in the Arkport community, including holding office for several years in the Arkport Alumni Association. In 2007 Nancy was a founding member of the Canisteo Valley Historical Society, and served as its President from then through 2023, when she was named President Emeritus.
She is survived by her son, Jay (Catherine) Glover of Ft. Defiance, VA, her two grandsons, John and Michael Glover; sisters, Linda Gamo (John Walsh), Martha (Thomas) Rink, and Kathy Bardeen, all of Arkport; sisters-in-law, Ellen Cappadonia of Florida, Sharon Shultz of Webster, NY and Cheryl Glover of Alexander, NY. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her brother, Francis Amidon; sister, Sharon Rudd, and brothers-in law, Doug Gamo and Spencer Bardeen. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Her funeral service at the Bishopville Community Church, with burial in Arkport Heritage Hill Cemetery, will take place in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Canisteo Valley Historical Society, P.O. Box 123, Arkport, NY 14807.
The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to assist Nancy’s family with the arrangements.
