Kay E. “Kate” Buckley

BATH – Kay E. “Kate” Buckley, 69, passed away Monday (Sept. 9, 2024) at home after a long illness.

Born in Bath on Aug. 8, 1955 she was a daughter of the late Richard and Barbara (Ivison) Ellis. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her son, Justin “Bubba” Buckley and her in-laws, Herbert and Carolyn Buckley.

A graduate of Haverling Central School in Bath, Kate also attended Corning Community College.

She was employed by the former Phillips Lighting in Bath; also owned and operated a graphic design and retail store in Hammondsport and retired as a secretary for the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.

Kate was a member of the Hammondsport Legion and the Hammondsport Fire Department Auxiliary. She especially enjoyed spending time drawing and painting.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, David; son, Nathan Buckley; a daughter-in-law, Crystal Buckley (Stephanie Rinker); five grandchildren, Amelia Jane, Ethan, Miles, Eli and Jacqueline; siblings, Andrea Morse, Jim (Karen) Ellis, Jacqueline Ellis, John (Elizabeth) Ellis and Michael (Tracey) Ellis; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will take place beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 28, 2024) at the Hammondsport Fire Department.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute to Communityfund.org for the Justin Buckley Citizenship Award.

The Bishop & DeSanto Funeral Home, 35 Main St., HAMMONDSPORT is honored to assist Kate’s family with the arrangements.

  1. Condolences. I had worked with Kate (and also David) at the old jail. She always had a smile on her face and a cheerful “Hello” for people. May precious memories help family and friends during most difficult time.

  2. I was saddened to hear of the passing of Kate…..I knew her since elementary school. My condolences to Dave and the Ellis family. RIP Kate

  3. I want to give my condolences to Buckley and Ellis Families. Kay was a very friendly person who was always supportive and caring to her family and to all who knew her.
