BATH-Kathryn Roberta Wood, beloved wife of Jack Wood, went home to be with Jesus her Lord and Savior July 16 2021. She was born May 12, 1926 the daughter of the late Clay and Ada Turner from Wayne, NY. In addition, she was predeceased by her only sibling, Isabel Turner.
Kathryn met her sweetheart in first grade where they both attended school in a two-room country schoolhouse in Wayne. She later graduated from Dundee Central School and married Jack after he was discharged from the Army. She worked at Mercury Aircraft as a dedicated employee for 46 years. Kathryn was a member of Bath Baptist Church and attended the Ladies Bible study until she could no longer get out. She was a shy and quiet presence but when she put her foot down, Jack would say “Yes Sergeant Major” and let her have her way. She took a Dale Carnegie course in Public Speaking and talked her sweetheart into taking dancing lessons. Kathryn was always there to lend a hand where needed at church, often visiting the elderly who were not able to get out. She generously supported the Vet Dog program as well as other local charities close to her heart.
Though she and Jack had no children, they rescued several cats and dogs from local animal shelters and gave them a spoiled and loving home.
Jack and Kathryn were able to enjoy many travels together to places like: Hawaii, Ireland, Switzerland, Germany, the lake country of Italy and many National Park trips.
Calling hours will be on July 31 from 9:30 to 11:00 am at the Bath Baptist Church on 14 Howell St. with the memorial service following directly after. Lunch will be provided for family and out of town guests afterwards.
The LaMarche Funeral Home, 35 Main St., Hammondsport is honored to assist Kathryn’s family with the arrangements.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers that you make a donation in her name one of the following organizations that were important to her: Bath Baptist Youth group, Vet Dogs, Finger Lakes SPCA, Catholic Charities, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and Food for the Poor.
