John A. “Cabbage” Capluzzi

HORNELL – John A. “Cabbage” Capluzzi, 80, of Terry Street, passed away peacefully on Mother’s Day morning (May 12, 2024) at the Hart Comfort House in Wellsville, NY following a long illness.

Born in Hornell on May 25, 1943 he was a son of the late James and Lucy (Altieri) Capluzzi. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by two sisters, Theresa Capluzzi and Joyce (Ace) Miller; and one brother, James (Patricia) Capluzzi.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, John was a graduate of Hornell High School and proudly served his country with the U.S. Army. Before he retired, he was employed for 35 years by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) in Hornell.

He is lovingly survived by his wife of nearly 57 years, Kathleen “Kathy” (Dugo) Capluzzi; two sons, John Capluzzi and DJ Capluzzi (Amy Guarglia) all of Hornell; two grandsons, Vincent Capluzzi and Joseph Capluzzi; as well as several nieces and nephews.

To honor his request there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to join his family at the CHAPEL OF ST. MARY’S CEMETERY, town of Fremont, where a funeral service will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday (May 16, 2024) with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to the Hart Comfort House, 141 E. State St., Wellsville, NY 14895.

The Bishop-Johnson & DeSanto Funeral Home, 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to assist John’s family with the arrangements.

Very sorry to hear of Johns passing, he and I were good friends through out high school, We sort of lost contact after school but would run into each other every now and then, usually at the Sunset Inn. John always had a good sense of humor and we shared many laughs together. My best wishes and condolences to Kathy and Johns family, may he rest in peace.

  2. John, my memories of you will live on, what a guy! You and Kathy were always there for me, growing up without my father and helping whenever it was needed. You and Kathy were always my first stop when visiting Hornell. Wish I could have told you this in person, Thank you John, I will miss you!

  7. Went through school with John. He was my first love while a freshman. We remained friends through school. His mom taught me how to make “real Itialian Pizza” His family lived across the street from my great grandparents.he would always greet my mom as mom whenever he say her. May you be at peace my friend.
